Dropbox is a free service that lets you securely save all of your important information to the cloud; including photos, videos and documents. Dropbox also saves automatically and across multiple devices. Which means you can save a file on Dropbox from your computer and access that identical file on your phone seconds later.
Dropbox also allows you to share your files with others, which makes it useful for business owners who are working with vendors or contractors and need to share and protect their information.
Dropbox Features
The primary features for Dropbox include:
Convenience – Dropbox gives you the ability to save all of your documents and files in one space and access them from any device.
Security – It provides users with the ability to ensure their saved documents are stored safely and securely. Dropbox goes through several layers of encryption to ensure that your information is safe and private. They also offer additional measures that you can take to implement two-step verification, and they utilize a third party audit system to check and re-check their security measures. In short, your information is secure.
Consistency – All your files are the same, regardless of where you access them from and the device you use. If you save a document via your computer then when you open that document from a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone it is the exact same document.
Sharing – You can invite others to view and access specific files in your Dropbox account.
Who is Dropbox For?
While Dropbox is ideal for many people, it’s ideal for business Internet marketers who are always on the job. You can access all of your information from anywhere, and you can share specific files with your team of contractors. It’s an ideal project management and communication tool.
The Big Benefit
Dropbox offers a number of significant benefits, but ask any Internet marketer what their biggest fear is and it’s probably losing their website and supporting business information. One computer crash or hacker attack and it’s all gone. Dropbox eliminates this concern. With all of your information and data saved on Dropbox you can go to sleep at night without worrying about a catastrophe. Should the worst case scenario happen, your information is always safe in Dropbox and you can restore your site or data in a matter of minutes.
Details
Dropbox has three basic plans, though they do also offer some customization for their business plans so if you don’t see what you need, give them a call. They’ll work with you to make sure you’re covered.
The three pricing plans include:
- Free: 2 GB up to 18 GB
- Pro: 100, 200, or 500 GB with plans starting at 9.99/month
- Business: 1TB for 5 users with options to increase your users and your space. Starts at $795/year
Note: All plans start with a free trial.
Space Can Be an Issue
You can quickly run out of space with Dropbox. Most people don’t realize just how much data and information they have. Many people don’t want to pay more when they need additional space. Dropbox addresses this by giving you more space when you refer other people to them.
Here’s how it works:
- Basic accounts (Free users) can earn up to 8GB of additional space through referrals, for a total 10GB maximum. Each referral earns you 250MB of additional space.
- Pro accounts can earn a total of 16GB of space through referrals, by earning 500MB per referral.
(Note: If you’re using AdWords you can get free AdWords credit and learn how to use AdWords to get Dropbox referrals – Alan Henry has a great post on how to do this over at Lifehacker. Dropbox is among the simplest, most elegant file-synchronization tools we’ve used. The premise behind Dropbox is it gives you access to your files no matter what computer or device you have at hand. The service stores files with strong encryption on multiple servers and lets you get at your files quickly, easily, and for the most part elegantly from virtually any Internet-enabled device.
